41- Training in Elderly Care in Europe

Skills training on elderly care in Europe In Western countries, elderly population is %15 of total population.Besides, this % 15 of elderly population consume more than % 50 of hospital applications and %40 of health resources. In Turkey, this rate is approximately %7. Average life prospect for total population of Turkey is estimated as 72,37 years from birth to death(70 years for men, 75 years for women). This aging case is a process which has physiological, psychological, economical and social sides. However, in many countries, aging limit and retirement age is agreed to be 65 because of demographic and economical reasons

 school’s graduates work in university and public hospitals. Our graduates work in broad fields including all health services about elderly care in health institutions and organizations. The 12 grade students intern in hospitals, elderly care homes, physiotheraphy centres etc.

As a school which educates health staff taking roles in geriatrics,we have made this project to give opportunity to our students who get theoric education at our school ,to develop their professional skills, to see European health services , to learn new devices and equipments used in geriatrics and to transfer suitable ones to our country by doing a 2-week internship in abroad.

The aims of our project can be assumed as;

-Learning EU standards of elderly care and rehabilitation,

-By joining the project activities about healing the life quality of geriatrics patients, participant students’ having a specific point of view in knowing this patient group better and meeting their speacial needs ,

-Transferring knowledge and experience about European geriatrics patient care and rehabilitation,

-Raising the life quality of patients,

-Generalizing obtained skills by practicing them in health sector,

-Contributing to the development of vocational education of health,

-Providing the abroad experienced graduated students to learn new technics in geriatrics nursing,

-Developing Professional knowledge, skills and experiences of nursing students ,who will work in hospitals in the field of geriatrics ,up to EU standards,

When our project ends successfully;

*After graduation, participant students will both transfer their professional knowledge and experiences to their collegues and will improve the quality of health services by contributing to geriatrics patients’ living a healthy life.

*Thanks to living and making cultural activities in host countries, their foreign language and communication skills will improve.
