E-MEDIVIP Project

Project Name: E-Learning Platform for Medical Informatics to Improve Vocational and ICT Practice (E-MEDIVIP)

Program: Erasmus+
Key Action: Cooperation for Innovation and the Exchange of Good Practices (KA2)
Action Type: Strategic Partnerships for Vocational Education and Training (KA202)
Beneficiary Organization: Bilecik Seyh Edebali University
Countries: Turkey, Spain, Germany
Project Duration: 01.09.2015 – 31.08.2017 (24 months)

The ongoing digitalization in the healthcare sector has increased the demand for qualified professionals in medical informatics. However, managing and processing large volumes of health data presents significant challenges. The efficiency and quality of medical services can be improved through innovative IT solutions – but there is a shortage of properly trained personnel.

The E-MEDIVIP project was initiated to address this gap. The goal was to support medical professionals such as secretaries, nurses, technicians, radiologists, and doctors with hands-on training in healthcare IT and enhance their digital competencies.

Project Partners

  • Bilecik Seyh Edebali University (Beneficiary Organization)

  • Sakarya University Technology Faculty (Partner)

  • Turkish Medical Informatics Association (Partner)

  • Bandırma Akşemsettin Vocational and Technical High School (Partner)

  • Centro De Investigacion Biomedica En Red (Partner)

  • Arda Beratung & Bildung (Partner)

Project Objectives

The project pursued several key objectives:

  • To provide international standards in healthcare IT education for current and future professionals.

  • To support lifelong learning through practical and innovative teaching methods.

  • To improve career prospects in the field of health informatics.

  • To qualify educators to better adapt training programs to market demands.

  • To update and optimize training curricula for the healthcare sector.

Intellectual Outputs

E-MEDIVIP achieved seven key outcomes:

  1. Needs Analysis: Detailed studies based on surveys in Turkey, Spain, Belgium, and Germany.

  2. Interactive E-Learning Platform: Development of an accessible digital learning environment.

  3. Basic Informatics Module: Introductory course for healthcare professionals.

  4. Patient Management Module: Training on handling patient data and services.

  5. Medical Measurement Devices Module: Guidance on the proper use of digital measuring instruments.

  6. Medical Imaging Systems Module: Practical application and analysis of medical imaging technology.

  7. Decision Support Systems Module: Introduction to AI-supported diagnostic and treatment processes.

Project Impact

The project targeted students in healthcare-related fields as well as active professionals such as doctors, nurses, pharmacists, IT experts, and managers. By combining open-source technology, interactive learning methods, and practical applications, E-MEDIVIP significantly improved both theoretical and practical knowledge.

While countries like Germany and Spain already had recognized qualifications in medical informatics, Turkey lacked comparable standards. E-MEDIVIP contributed to establishing national training guidelines in this field through international cooperation.

Results and Long-Term Impact

  • Introduction of new, practice-oriented teaching methods in medical informatics.

  • Positive labor market development due to better-qualified professionals.

  • Promotion of scientific collaboration in health informatics.

  • Increased motivation among educators through modern training approaches.

  • Sustainable improvement in service quality and competitiveness in healthcare.

  • Enhanced working conditions and salary prospects for IT-trained professionals.

  • Development of standardized curricula for vocational education in the healthcare sector.

The E-MEDIVIP project laid a sustainable foundation for modernizing medical informatics education. It strengthened both individual qualifications and institutional structures in the healthcare sector. Through international collaboration, innovative and practice-oriented educational approaches were successfully implemented.
