Erasmus+: Overview of Key Actions

Erasmus+ is the European Union's program to support education, training, youth, and sport in Europe. It runs from 2014 to 2027 and aims to provide opportunities for Europeans to study, train, gain experience, and volunteer abroad. The program is divided into three main Key Actions (KAs):

1. KA1: Learning Mobility of Individuals

  • Student and Staff Mobility: Enables students and staff in higher education and vocational education and training (VET) to study, train, or teach abroad. This fosters personal and professional development and increases employability.

  • Youth Exchanges and Volunteering: Provides opportunities for young people to participate in exchanges and volunteer activities in different countries, promoting cultural understanding and active citizenship.

  • Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees: Offers scholarships for high-quality joint master programs delivered by consortia of European and, in some cases, non-European universities, enhancing international cooperation and excellence in higher education.

2. KA2: Cooperation for Innovation and the Exchange of Good Practices

  • Strategic Partnerships: Supports projects that promote innovative practices and cooperation between organizations in education, training, and youth sectors. These partnerships aim to improve the quality and relevance of education and training systems.

  • Knowledge Alliances: Fosters collaboration between higher education institutions and businesses to promote innovation and employability by developing new curricula and teaching methods.

  • Sector Skills Alliances: Brings together key stakeholders to address skill gaps in specific sectors by designing and delivering innovative vocational education and training programs.

  • Capacity Building Projects: Aims to support the modernization and internationalization of higher education institutions in Partner Countries outside the EU, fostering cooperation and exchanges.

3. KA3: Support for Policy Reform

  •
  • Policy Dialogue and Cooperation: Facilitates dialogue among policymakers, stakeholders, and institutions to develop and implement effective education, training, and youth policies.

  • Shaping Future Policies: Supports research, analysis, and initiatives that contribute to the development and implementation of policies in education and youth sectors.

  • Youth Participation: Encourages the involvement of young people in democratic life and policy-making processes, ensuring their voices are heard in shaping policies that affect them.

Additional Elements of Erasmus+:

  • Jean Monnet Activities: Promotes teaching and research on European integration and supports institutions and associations active in this field.

  • Sport: Encourages the development of grassroots sports, promotes cooperation and dialogue among sport organizations, and addresses challenges such as doping, match-fixing, and violence.

Impact and Reach:

  • Inclusivity and Accessibility: Erasmus+ aims to provide opportunities for individuals from all backgrounds, including those with fewer opportunities, ensuring that the program is inclusive and accessible to all.

  • Digital and Green Transitions: The program emphasizes the integration of digital technologies in education and training and promotes environmental sustainability through green practices and initiatives.

  • Global Reach: While primarily focused on Europe, Erasmus+ also engages with Partner Countries worldwide, fostering global cooperation and mutual understanding.

Erasmus+ is a key instrument in the EU's strategy to boost skills, employability, and intercultural understanding among its citizens, contributing to the creation of a more cohesive and competitive Europe.
