About the project:

The nature of education is undergoing a transformation in the 21st century. The ongoing digitalisation of everyday life necessitates a rethinking of our society, and particularly of our educational systems. It is becoming increasingly evident that robots are playing an ever more prominent role in the workplace, society, and daily life. The incorporation of artificial intelligence has led to a notable increase in the autonomy of these robots, which are now capable of performing tasks that were previously the domain of humans. This advancement could potentially result in a shift where robots become competitors in the labour market, both for students and even for educators.

The principal objective of this project is to establish a European standard for the education of social humanoid and Pepper robots. This entails the formulation of a comprehensive curriculum, the production of meticulous course materials, and the development of efficacious pedagogical methodologies. Once these objectives have been met, the outcomes will be tested by conducting pilot courses for undergraduate students. The long-term objective is to establish this curriculum, along with the associated materials and methodologies, as a formal educational programme for universities.

The project is coordinated by Kahramanmaras SUTCU İmam University (Turkey), with the following partners:

Politechnika Slaska (Poland)
Arda Beratung & Bildung GmbH (Germany)
Gazi University (Turkey)
Universitat Jaume I de Castellon (Spain)

The first intellectual output (IO1) was led by ARDA Beratung und Bildung (ARDA) from Germany. As part of Intellectual Output 1 (IO1), ARDA conducted a needs analysis survey to determine the current state of knowledge on humanoid and Pepper robots, identifying both strengths and deficits. The preparation and implementation of the survey questions were of crucial importance for the success of the project. With the active collaboration of all partner organisations, a total of 66 survey questions were formulated in English. Subsequently, the project partners translated these questions into the national languages of Germany, Poland, Spain, and Turkey.

The data collection process commenced on 18 February and concluded at the end of March. It was agreed that approximately 100 respondents from each partner country would participate in the surveys.

The data collection process, which entailed the administration of surveys, commenced on 18 February and concluded at the end of March. It was agreed that approximately 100 respondents from each partner country would participate in the surveys.

The final results of the survey were presented by ARDA from Germany to the partners at the second international meeting, which took place in Berlin from 11 to 14 April. The third transnational meeting of the ROBOCOOP project was held on 24-25 August 2023 in Gliwice, Poland. The 4th transnational meeting of the ROBOCOOP project occurred on 8-9 July 2024 in Castellon, Spain. During these meetings, all partners engaged in discourse concerning the survey results, the progress of the project, and the curriculum that had been developed on the basis of the survey results. Information was exchanged, and preparations for the next phase were decided.
